Oudimentary Wood Descriptions
Burmese
If you follow the Ayeyarwady River from its delta in the Indian Ocean to its beginnings in Burma’s Mountainous Kachin State, you will find an inhospitable land filled with tribal peoples, warlords, dense jungles and… you guessed it. Gaharu. Aloeswood. Oud. Call it what you want. Beautiful, bubbling, black.
This is quite possibly one of the highest quality woods we have offered so far during Oudimentary’s illustrious history. From the Burmese-Thai border, this wood is only available for a limited time. Lots of black in this one, folks. Lots of black means lots of resin. Lots of resin means lots of scent. Lots of scent means you will be a happy oud-burner!
Think fruity (dried- apricot), bubbly, with hints of spice and caramel. A heady, long-burning wood, Oudimentary’s Burmese wood is only available in limited amounts for an even more limited time.
Don’t miss out, oud-enthusiasts!

Southern Thai
When the Oud stalkers at Oudimentary uncovered this wood from the South of Thailand, our suppliers warned us that the wood was SO fresh, so new, that it was still too damp for it to be enclosed in a container for too long. Thankfully, we heeded this warning and left the wood in an open-air container until we departed to the airport, where we had to enclose it for the duration of the flight.
By the time we flew back from Bangkok to SFO and then on to the Oudimentary offices, there were already the beginning traces of condensation on the inside of our containers which contained the sanctified scented wood.
Not to worry, because our teams of Oud Scientists assure that the wood has been since dried out, is ready for ignition, and can safely be shipped straight to your burners.
What does this all mean to you? It means this wood contains super high amounts of resin, and super high amounts of resin in Aloeswood is a good thing.
It also means you can know that this wood is fresh, just harvested a short time before purchased by Oudimentary.
Our Southern Thai wood is a great example of a full-bodied Thai/Malay wood with a syrupy and aromatic smoke, which is outstanding for scenting clothes.
Do yourself and those around you a great act of kindness: Fire up some Oudimentary Southern Thai today!

Super Cambodi
In the world of Aloeswood, especially when one enters higher levels of afficinadoship, it’s often easy to get jaded even to great woods. We are always searching for a better wood- more resin, more, sweetness, more woodiness, more love.
Sometimes, on this search there is a breakthrough-a breakthrough into an uncharted territory. Something just a little bit better, a little bit stronger, a little bit subtler. Enter Super Cambodi.
From one specific mountain in Northeast Cambodia, Oudimentary presents you with this Royal example of an Oud Cambodi.
While burning, its high resin content speaks for itself. Its first burst of sweet, almost dried-apricot like fruitiness with hints of cinnamon, is enough to send even the most expert of Oud adepts into a state of higher awareness. It’s a long burning wood, with each level of burn becoming subtler than the next. Words are no longer adequate to describe what this wood gives. You truly become one with the burn.
Paired with our KSSS oil, you have a match that, quite simply might be the most beautiful scent in this world.

Super Laos
From the land-locked forests of Laos, we bring you our second best wood on offer. It has become an instant classic for us here at Oudimentary, and we are proud to offer this fine example of a blessed wood from a forgotten land.
Over the border from Laos in Thailand on one of our last buying trips, we unearthed this wood from one of our suppliers. They told us that with the scarcity of woods such as this one, they might not ever be able to offer another fine example such as it. Of course, the Oud-hunters at Oudimentary scooped up as much as we could muster to bring directly to your red-hot burners.
Its character cannot be underestimated. The wood’s color is dark, and the wood exudes a slightly musty smell even before burning. Upon lighting, the immediate burst is one of a bittersweet-chocolate-like sweetness. It’s a scent that can only come from a wood of this distinction. Of course the resin content is SUPER-high, giving what we like to call the “Bubble love-love.”
As the wood passes through this first stage, its scent then mellows into a spicy, mature burn.
A warning: Once you adjust yourself to this wood, there is no turning back!

Thai Black Gold
Straight from the Land of Smiles comes the latest wood to be added to Oudimentary’s illustrious roster of some of the loveliest woods on the face of God’s Great Earth. And it’s name is Thai Black Gold.
What is Thai Black Gold you ask? TBG is a ridiculously black, hard wood, with copious amounts of natural, magnificent mold. Yup, you heard it…mold. As you may know, in the aloeswood world, mold is a good thing. The moldier the better. Because the more mold the more scent. The more scent, the happier the oud-adept is, and the happier the oud-adept is, the higher stage of aloeswood-cognizance can be reached.
Mainly small pieces, TBG is super bubbly when burned. It produces a syrupy and aromatic smoke, starting with a sweet initial hit, mellowing into a thick, heady, organic scent, which is outstanding for scenting clothes.
Love yourself enough. Thai Black Gold.

Malay
Just back from a oud-mining trip to Thailand, and found this great wood for a great price. This is a new top-notch Malay wood from the Thai border on the peninsula, and a welcome addition to the Oudimentary wood roster.
This wood is a great place for Mid Level Ouimentologists to start a deeper exploration of this world-renowned aloeswood-producing region.
Lots of black in this wood, and beautiful pieces with a typical Malay style– some hard long grainy pieces, and some other caps of various sizes. Its scent is classic Malay. Great for fumigation of clothes, long lasting sweetness with hints of molasses and peach tobacco. It is affordable as well. Honestly for the price, it may be one of the best woods Oudimentary has ever had on offer.

Irian Jaya
Back once again! We are happy to say that the wood that helped Oudimentary start a aloeswood-burning revolution stateside is back and better than ever. We couldn’t be happier.
Hailing from the largest province of the Republic of Indonesia, Oudimentary’s latest batch of Irian Jaya wood has that classic East Indonesian kick with a price tag that is easy on the pocket in these times of financial turbulence.
If you haven’t used any East Indonesian woods before, you are in for a real treat. They are a world away from Cambodi and Lao woods, with not much sweetness or usual tones of dried fruit, etc. This IJ wood is a much more grassy burn, and an almost bread-like top notes. This IJ is a heavy wood, with lots of resin, and is why we snatched it up so quickly. Nice for fumigation of clothes, especially paired with one of our sprays.
Also to note, there are some beeee-uuutiful pieces in this batch from a visual perspective. The wood is very smooth and rounded, often with the peieces coming to a point. They feel great in your hand, and there are a few really large chinks as well, which can be great for gifts.

Oud Burners (Mubkharas)
Small & Medium Red Tarimi Burners
Tarim is a historic town situated in the Hadhramaut Valley of eastern Yemen. Tarim is widely acknowledged as the theological, juridical, and academic center of the Hadhramaut Valley.
An important locus of Islamic learning, it is estimated to contain the highest concentration of descendants of the Islamic prophet Muhammad (sayyids) anywhere in the world.
The city is distinguished for producing numerous Islamic scholars, including Imam al-Haddad. Additionally, Tarim is also home to Dar al-Mustafa, a well-known educational institute for the study of traditional Islamic Sciences.
Our Tarimi Mubkhara is a classic example of a burner from this famed reigon. Each piece is individually handcrafted in Tarim, and therefore each piece is unique in cut, shape and appearance. They are stylistically-specific burners to the area, and they won’t be found anywhere else. Super rare for purchase outside of Yemen. They are all really works of art, and built with one thing in mind: to take your burn to a higher level. Contact us for photos.
