Notes: Grass, wood, damp stone, smoke, hot cocoa powder
If you haven’t used any East Indonesian oud woods before, you are in for a real treat. Imagine yourself outdoors and sitting around a campfire or walking through the forest just after its rained. The species is Gyrinops rather than the usual Aquilaria of mainland South East Asia. This Gyrinops is distinct and offers less spice and brings a grassy sweetness instead. Great choice for fumigation of clothes, especially paired with one of our Indonesian oud oils. An excellent oud wood at a great price.
Tarakan Island is located off the coast of East Kalimantan in Indonesia, close to the Malaysian border. The majority of the island is covered in mangrove swamps, which happen to be prime growing grounds for oud wood.
The burn is long-lasting and starts with an undeniable scent reminiscent of damp earth after a mid-afternoon tropical storm. This classic start gives way to a sweeter, headier note as resin appears and the smoke begins its smoldering dance.
While this batch doesn't carry the heavier resin content of top-tier woods, it offers an excellent burn with authentic character at a mid-range price point and available for a limited time only. Perfect for those seeking quality oud without the premium tag. Hard, medium-sized pieces with a handsome amount of resin embedded in each piece.
